Experiment 7 — Over the Hill

Topic: Physics · Class 9 · Work, energy, power and the law of conservation of energy

Aim: Give the cart just enough energy to clear the 8 m hill — and no more.

Daily: A roller coaster is released from the highest point and never climbs higher again. A cycle freewheeling downhill gains exactly what it loses going up, minus what friction steals.

Question: A cart is released from a height of 6 m on a frictionless track. Can it climb a later hill of 8 m?

Exp: Its energy came from the 6 m drop; conservation of energy forbids climbing higher.

Question: Potential energy is calculated as…

Exp: Energy stored by virtue of height.

Question: A body of 2 kg moving at 4 m/s has kinetic energy…

Exp: Energy is conserved, only transformed.
