📖 Chapter 6 of 6 · How the Sun Says Goodbye · All ages

Cooling into a black dwarf

Very, very slowly — over trillions of years, far longer than the universe has even existed so far — the white dwarf cools down completely. It stops glowing and becomes a cold, dark black dwarf, floating silently through space forever.

No black dwarfs exist yet anywhere in the universe — it just hasn't been long enough!

Story by Nevid Goel, age 7 · fact-checked and illustrated for a kids' space book
The Sun isn't dying today, or even soon — this all happens about 5 billion years from now. Plenty of time to go outside and look at it (safely!) tonight. 🌞
