📖 Chapter 3 of 6 · How the Sun Says Goodbye · All ages

The far planets are left alone

The Sun's red-giant edge never reaches Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, or Neptune — they're much too far away. Jupiter and Saturn keep their gas, and Saturn's beautiful rings stay right where they are, calmly orbiting.

The far planets do drift a little farther out over time, though, because as the Sun sheds mass, its gravity pulls a bit less strongly.
