📖 Chapter 4 of 9 · AI For New Learner Basic 2 (Multi Indian Language) · Class 5
Chapter 4: AI in the Daily Life of India
In this chapter
- AI in transport — bus, train, auto and metro.
- AI in agriculture — helping farmers grow more.
- AI in shops, banks and the famous UPI payments.
- Meeting Ravi (Mumbai) and Anjali (Assam).
Where is AI working in India?
AI is everywhere in India
From the busy streets of Mumbai to the calm tea gardens of Assam, AI is quietly working. It books your bus seat, suggests crops to farmers, helps your father pay through UPI, and even guides Metro trains. In this chapter, we will travel to many corners of India and meet AI in action.
Story 1: Ravi’s Quick Mumbai Trip
From: Mumbai, Maharashtra · Character: Ravi, age 10
Ravi lives in Mumbai. One Sunday his Aaji (grandmother) wanted to visit her sister in Pune. Ravi’s mother opened a travel app and typed “Mumbai to Pune, tomorrow morning”.
In seconds, the app showed buses, trains and even shared cabs. The AI inside the app had compared 5,000 options — cost, time, comfort — and shown the best ones at the top. Mother chose a bus, paid through UPI, and got a ticket on her phone. No queue!
On the way to the bus station, they took the Mumbai Metro. The Metro screens used AI to predict crowd at each station. Ravi smiled — “Aai, even our city trains have AI inside!” The journey was smooth, fast, and full of new ideas. Welcome to the new India.
Story 2: Anjali and the Tea Garden
From: Jorhat, Assam · Character: Anjali, age 10
Anjali lives in Jorhat, deep in the green hills of Assam. Her Deuta (father) is a tea garden manager. Every plant must be checked — is it healthy? Is it sick?
Last year, the garden got a new drone with an AI camera. The drone flies over the bushes and clicks thousands of photos in one hour. The AI checks each leaf and marks brown ones — those bushes need medicine. Healthy ones are left alone.
Earlier, 50 workers walked the fields for two weeks. Now AI does it in two hours, and no leaf is missed. Anjali tells her city cousin proudly — “Our tea is famous all over India, and now AI helps us grow it!” Across India, AI helps farmers save time, water and crops.
Solved illustrations
AI in action — across our country
1. How does an app suggest the best bus or train?
Show answer
Answer: The app collects data about all trips — time, price, comfort, reviews. AI sorts this data and shows you the best options first. You save hours of searching, in seconds.
2. What is UPI and how does AI help it?
Show answer
Answer: UPI is India’s special payment system. When you scan a QR code, AI checks if the payment is safe and not a fraud. It happens in 1 second. This is why India is a world leader in digital payments!
3. Why is a drone faster than 50 workers in a tea garden?
Show answer
Answer: A drone with an AI camera flies above the plants. It can scan a hundred bushes in a minute. AI checks every leaf for disease. Workers would take many days for the same work.
4. Can AI predict crowd in a Metro station?
Show answer
Answer: Yes! Sensors at the gates count how many people came in. AI looks at past data (time, day, weather, festival) and predicts “5:00 pm — very crowded”. So extra trains can be sent.
5. Does AI work only in big cities like Mumbai?
Show answer
Answer: Not at all. AI is used in villages too — for farming, weather, and rural banking. Anjali’s tea garden is far from any city, yet AI is hard at work there.
AI across India
AI is working in every region of the country. Here is where you will find it.
| Region | AI at work |
|---|---|
| ★ North | Delhi Metro AI scheduling · Punjab smart farms · Online tutoring for school kids |
| ★ South | Bangalore AI labs (the AI capital!) · Chennai traffic lights · Kerala flood warning system |
| ★ East | Assam tea drones · Odisha cyclone prediction · Bengal fish-farm monitoring |
| ★ West | Mumbai stock-market AI · Gujarat power grid · Rajasthan tourism camel-app |
| ★ Central | Madhya Pradesh forest-fire alert AI · Chhattisgarh hospital scan helper |
| ★ North-East & Hills | Sikkim wildlife tracking · Manipur weather forecast · Himachal apple-orchard AI |
