📖 Chapter 6 of 9 · AI For New Learner Basic 2 (Multi Indian Language) · Class 5
Chapter 6: AI Helping Us Be Good Citizens
In this chapter
- Honesty with AI — never copy, always think.
- Online safety — AI in your favourite apps.
- AI for the planet — saving water, electricity, animals.
- Meeting Karthik (Karnataka) and Riya (Kolkata).
Why do values matter when using AI?
AI with good values
AI is very powerful. But power without good values is dangerous. NEP 2020 reminds us — learning must build character too. So in this chapter, we will see how to use AI honestly, safely, and for the good of our country and our Earth.
Story 1: Karthik’s Honest Choice
From: Bangalore, Karnataka · Character: Karthik, age 10
Karthik lives in Bangalore — the AI capital of India. One night he had a project: “Write 200 words on the great river Kaveri.” He was lazy and tired.
He thought, “Let me ask the AI chatbot. It will write the whole essay for me.” The chatbot wrote a beautiful essay. Karthik almost copied it word by word. Then he stopped.
He remembered his teacher’s words: “Use AI like a textbook. Read it, learn from it, but write in YOUR OWN words.” So Karthik read the AI’s essay, closed the tablet, and wrote his own 200 words from his own memory and ideas. His essay was not perfect — but it was HIS. The teacher gave him full marks and a special star — for honesty. AI is a friend, not a cheater. Use it the right way.
Story 2: Riya Spots a Fake Message
From: Kolkata, West Bengal · Character: Riya, age 10
Riya lives in Kolkata. One evening, her father got a message: “Congratulations! Click this link to win Rs 1 lakh!” He almost clicked.
Riya remembered her cyber-safety class. “Baba, wait! AI in banks teaches us — real prizes never come from unknown links. This is a fraud.” She showed him the bank’s official app, where AI had already marked the message as ‘SUSPICIOUS’.
Baba was thankful. He told the neighbours too — many older people got such fake messages every day. AI in our phones now catches many frauds, but we must also use OUR brain. Never share your password, your UPI PIN, or your OTP with anybody. A good citizen is a safe citizen.

Become a safe, smart, kind AI user
1. Is it okay to copy an AI essay and submit as my own?
Show answer
Answer: No. That is dishonest. You can READ the AI essay to learn, but you must write the final answer in your own words. AI is a helper, not a ghost-writer.
2. What should I do if I get a ‘You won a prize!’ message?
Show answer
Answer: Do NOT click any link. Do NOT share your details. Show it to a parent. Real prizes do not come like this. Banks even use AI to flag such fake messages.
3. Should I share my password with a friend?
Show answer
Answer: Never. Even your best friend should not know your password. Passwords are like your toothbrush — for you only. Use AI features like ‘lock app’ to keep things safe.
4. Can AI help save our environment?
Show answer
Answer: Yes! AI can predict floods, plan tree-planting, track tigers, save water in farming, and reduce electricity in offices. AI is a friend of Mother Earth too.
5. Is AI always right?
Show answer
Answer: No. AI can make mistakes. Always check important answers in 2-3 places. A good citizen does not believe everything online — they think, ask, and verify.
How does AI help the planet?
AI can protect the environment in at least six practical ways. Smart machines and kind hearts together make a better planet.
- Tree counters — AI counts trees from sky photos.
- Water savers — AI tells farmers exactly how much to water.
- Tiger trackers — AI cameras find tigers in our forests.
- Trash sorters — AI separates plastic, paper, and metal.
- Air watch — AI checks the air pollution in our cities.
- Crop care — AI alerts farmers about pests early.
