Chapter 5: When AI Creates — Art, Stories & More

In this chapter

  • What is ‘Generative AI’? AI that CREATES new things!
  • Kavya (Mysuru) makes amazing AI art.
  • Rohan (Guwahati) writes a story with AI’s help.
  • AI making music, pictures, and even videos.
  • When is using generative AI a good idea — and when not?

New word: Generative AI

Until now, AI mostly LOOKED at things and gave answers. Generative AI is special — it CREATES new things. You tell it: ‘Write a story’, ‘Draw a picture’, ‘Make a song’ — and it makes something brand new in seconds. ChatGPT, Gemini, Bing Image Creator, MidJourney — these are all Generative AI tools.

Did you know?

India has its own Generative AI tools too! Bhashini is an AI from the Government of India that can translate between 22 Indian languages — for free!

Story 1: Kavya’s AI Art Studio

From: Mysuru, Karnataka · Character: Kavya, age 11

Kavya types a prompt and AI makes four peacock pictures she uses as inspiration for her own prize-winning painting.

Kavya lives in royal Mysuru, home of the famous Dasara festival. Her school had an art competition with a tough theme: ‘India’s National Bird in the Royal City’.

Kavya wasn’t sure how to start. Her elder sister showed her an AI art tool. “Just describe what you imagine, Kavya.” Kavya typed: “A peacock dancing in a Mysore palace garden, full of bright colours.” Click.

In 10 seconds, the AI made FOUR pictures. Each one was different and beautiful! Kavya didn’t copy any of them — instead, she used them as INSPIRATION for her own painting. Her artwork won first prize. “AI gave me ideas. But the painting was MINE,” Kavya said proudly. That is the smart way to use AI art.

Story 2: Rohan and the AI Storyteller

From: Guwahati, Assam · Character: Rohan, age 10

Rohan asks AI for a story to learn how stories are built, then writes his own about a river dolphin.

Rohan loves stories. He lives in Guwahati, on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra. His school had a creative writing class. His teacher said, “Write a 200-word story for tomorrow.”

Rohan stared at the blank page. His mother helped him try a Generative AI tool. He typed: “Write a story about a brave Assamese tiger cub.” In 5 seconds, the AI wrote a beautiful little tale set in Kaziranga, with a cub named Babul learning bravery.

Rohan didn’t submit the AI’s story as his own — that would be cheating. Instead, he READ the AI story to learn how stories are built. Then he wrote HIS OWN story — about a baby river dolphin in the Brahmaputra. His teacher loved it. “AI is like a study guide,” Rohan tells his friends. “Use it to LEARN, not to cheat.”

Understand how AI creates new things

1. What is Generative AI?

Show answer

Answer: Generative AI is the kind of AI that GENERATES (makes) new things — words, pictures, songs, videos. You give it an idea (called a ‘prompt’) and it creates something new in seconds.

2. What is a ‘prompt’?

Show answer

Answer: A prompt is the instruction you give to AI. Like ‘Draw a peacock dancing’. The clearer your prompt, the better the result. Good prompts are like good recipes — specific and clear!

3. Can AI make a song?

Show answer

Answer: Yes! AI music tools can make songs in any style — Bollywood, classical, hip-hop. Some Indian music apps now use AI to create new background music for YouTube videos and movies.

4. Is it cheating to use AI for homework?

Show answer

Answer: If you SUBMIT AI’s work as your own — yes, that is cheating. But if you READ what AI wrote to LEARN, then write your own — that is smart. Rohan’s way is the right way.

5. Will AI replace artists, writers, and musicians?

Show answer

Answer: No. AI cannot feel like humans do. The BEST art comes from human emotion, life experience, and culture. AI can help artists work faster — but humans give art its soul.

How to talk to Generative AI

A good prompt gives a good answer. Compare a weak prompt with a strong one.

Weak vs strong prompts
Task✗ Weak prompt✓ Strong prompt
For a drawing“A tiger”“A royal Bengal tiger walking through Sundarbans at sunset, in painting style”
For a story“Tell me a story”“Write a 100-word story about a clever monkey in a Kerala temple”

Try this at home

If you have a parent’s phone with an AI app — try one prompt: ‘Write a 4-line poem about my city’. Show it to your family!
