Chapter 6: AI, You & the Future of India

In this chapter

  • Aditi’s dream — what AI jobs exist in India?
  • Yusuf’s promise — being an honest AI user.
  • AI for the planet — saving water, energy, and animals.
  • Cyber safety — don’t fall for fake AI tricks!
  • The 7 Golden Rules of a Smart AI Citizen.

The Big Idea

AI is powerful — but power without good values is dangerous. NEP 2020 reminds us that learning must build CHARACTER too. In this chapter, you will learn to be a SMART AI CITIZEN — someone who uses AI honestly, safely, kindly, and for the good of India and our beautiful Earth.

Try this at home

Ask 3 elders in your family: “What is one good thing and one worry you have about AI?” Note their answers — there are no wrong views!

Story 1: Aditi Dreams of AI Jobs

From: Pondicherry · Character: Aditi, age 11

At an AI Career Fair, Aditi meets an AI Doctor and a Robot Maker and dreams of a future AI job.

Aditi lives in pretty Pondicherry, where French streets meet Tamil temples. One Sunday, her school had an AI Career Fair. Aditi’s eyes shone — there were SO many new jobs she had never heard of!

She met Dr. Meena, an AI Doctor, whose AI helps read X-rays faster. She met Mr. Rajan, a Robot Maker who builds friendly hospital robots. She met Priya didi, an AI Artist who designs Bollywood movie posters using AI.

Aditi went home and made a list — “When I grow up, I want to be... maybe a Data Detective! Or an AI Teacher!” Her parents smiled. India needs millions of young people who understand AI — and Aditi was getting ready early.

Story 2: Yusuf’s Honest Choice

From: Hyderabad, Telangana · Character: Yusuf, age 11

Yusuf recognises a fake “account locked” message as fraud and stops his aunt from clicking the link.

Yusuf studies in Hyderabad, the city of biryani and big tech offices. One evening, his Phupu (aunt) got a message: “Your bank account is locked. Click this link to fix.” The message looked real.

Yusuf had learned about cyber safety. “Phupu, STOP! No bank sends links like this. This is a FRAUD message.” He showed her how to check — the real bank’s app had NO such alert. The link was a trick to steal her money.

That night Yusuf made his Honest AI Promise: never copy, never share passwords, never click strange links, always check. AI is amazing — but bad people use it for cheating too. Smart kids like Yusuf protect their families. Being safe is being smart.

Become a kind and clever AI citizen

1. Is it okay to submit an AI-written essay as my own?

Show answer

Answer: No, that is dishonest. You may READ what the AI wrote to LEARN, but the final words you submit must be your own. Teachers want to see YOUR thinking, not AI’s. Use AI as a coach, not a copier.

2. What is a ‘phishing’ message?

Show answer

Answer: It is a fake message pretending to be from a bank or company, trying to steal passwords or money. The clue: it creates panic (‘account locked!’) and asks you to click a link. Real banks never do this.

3. Can I share my UPI PIN with my best friend?

Show answer

Answer: Never! A PIN is like your toothbrush — only for you. Even your best friend should not know it. If shared, your money can be stolen. AI may try to trick you for your PIN. Stay alert.

4. Name three ways AI helps the Earth.

Show answer

Answer: (a) Smart water in farms — saves crores of litres. (b) Drones count trees and tigers in forests. (c) AI sorts plastic for recycling. AI for a green India!

5. What should I do if AI gives me a wrong answer?

Show answer

Answer: Check with another source — a textbook, a teacher, or another app. AI is helpful but not perfect. A smart AI user is a CHECKING user. Trust, but verify.

The 7 Golden Rules of a Smart AI Citizen

The 7 Golden Rules

  1. Be honest — never pass off AI work as your own.
  2. Be private — never share passwords, PIN, OTP.

  5. Be green — use AI to help our planet, not harm it.
  6. Be proud — AI in your mother tongue is a gift; use it!
  7. Be curious — always ask: how does this work? Why? What if?
